The history of Conceria Lufran began in 1972, when two brothers, Angiolino and Luigi Donati founded the company together with Angiolino’s son Franco.

The new way of life in those years also influenced the tanning sector with the search for innovative items, and it was during this period that we were the first to produce white tanning.
We discovered a new way of tanning, no longer empirical, but supported by studies in chemistry, physics and biology that made tanning more constant and improved the final result, and we began research on the waste water, sludge and emissions during processing.
In 2000, the arrival of the third generation was marked by the entry into the work environment of daughters Carla and Michela Donati.
With them, the company chose the path of quality linked to tradition:
the return of the “slow tanning” obtained by choosing innovative machinery, the choice of smaller drums, air drying, in-house manual processing, the laboratory for chemical and physical tests, and the control of the products throughout the entire process. All of this was made possible by the construction of the new 7,000 square metre operational headquarters, a state-of-the-art facility with large, well-illuminated spaces, modern industrial technology, where we work safely and in an eco-friendly way.
The full process takes place entirely in our own factory:
We buy certified Swiss calf hides directly from the slaughterhouse and process them, tracking them through all the steps. All the baths in the wet process are recycled, which saves an enormous amount of water and chemicals. The entire process is carried out using 4.0 technology.
The white tanning developed by LUFRAN in the 1970s has improved over time with the introduction of new products and technologies, becoming a true METAL FREE, organic tanning process. This is a special process of maximum eco-compatibility that allows for obtaining, without the use of mineral tanning salts, finished leathers with special aesthetic aspects of extreme naturalness, lightness and softness and brilliant colours.
The finished product obtained is hypoallergenic and can be used by even the most sensitive people.
Products made from Lufran leather can be disposed of with minimal environmental impact, without releasing any pollutants, hazardous products, or metals.
As well as solid processing waste, it can also be recycled to obtain by-products that can be used in other sectors, such as agriculture.
